The Bike and Brunch Newsletter Turn of the Century For many cyclists, the crowning moment is
participating and completing your first century. Robin
Sparer, a Bike & Bruncher who always leads the pack,
completed her first century of the year in mid-May. Robin
has one word of wisdom for anyone looking to take the
100-mile plunge. Train. No matter how good of shape you
think that you're in, a 100-mile ride is difficult. For
best results, plan to plan your ride for either the
spring or fall. To complete one without bonking, you need
to prepare your body by eating and drinking before and
during the ride. It's also best to avoid alcohol the week
before the ride. Listed below is the May Men's Health magazine's 10
week training plan for riding a century. Note that the
training mileage increases 10-12 percent per week.
